Question 4 - What type of pipe material can Wrap Seal be applied on?

Question 5 - What type of fluid is Wrap Seal suitable to be used for?

When the repair is done according to proper procedures and instructions, Wrap Seal can be a permanent repair system. Please refer to operating procedures.

Question 6 - Is Wrap Seal a permanent or temporary repair?

Yes, Wrap Seal can be applied to elbows, tee-joints or flanges. Please refer to operating procedures.

Question 7 - Beside repairing pipes with straight section, can Wrap Seal be applied to elbows, tee-joints or flanges?

We recommend that Wrap Seal to be used on pipes up to 18” diameter, although diameters up to 36” have been successfully attempted. For larger diameter pipes, it is important to ensure proper tension when wrapping the product. Please consult Alstern Technologies for application with diameter greater than 18”.

Question 8 - What is the maximum diameter Wrap Seal can be applied to?

Application time for Wrap Seal is approximately 3 to 5 minutes. After applying the product, it cures in approximately 30 minutes at temperature between 10°C to 27°C. Heat can be applied to accelerate the curing process.

Question 9 - How long does it take for the product to be fully cured?

Once fully cured, Wrap Seal can withstand pipeline temperature up to 300°C.

Question 10 - After Wrap Seal is fully cured, what is the maximum temperature it can withstand?

Once fully cured, Wrap Seal can withstand pipeline pressure up to 400psi.

Question 11 - After Wrap Seal is fully cured, what is the maximum pressure it can withstand?

Please refer to operating instruction for proper procedures.

Question 12 - How do I use Wrap Seal for online and offline leak repairs, corroded pipe repairs and pipeline reinforcement?

In order to select the number and size of the rolls required, you need to know the pipe diameter and pipeline pressure. Please refer to the chart below:

Question 13 - How do I select the number and size of rolls to be used for my repair job?

For example, pipe repair on a 2” diameter pipe with operating pressure of 50 PSI will required one roll of 2” x 12’ Wrap Seal. Wrap at least 10 layers of Wrap Seal around the leak area. For installation on pipe fittings, use the recommendation for the next larger pipe size as a guide.

For leak repair on tanks or vessels, it is recommended to use the Seal Stic steel filled epoxy. Reduce the fluid in the tank to a level below the crack or leak location, use the hand moldable epoxy to fill the crack holes. After 30 minutes when the epoxy is fully cured, the leak will be contained.

Question 14 - Is Wrap Seal applicable for tank or vessel leak repair?

Wrap Seal can be used to repair crack line of any length. Sufficient amount of Seal Stic must be to fully cover the crack line.

Question 15 - What is the maximum crack line that Wrap Seal can repair?

If the Seal Stic provided in the package is not sufficient to cover the entire crack line, additional quantity of the Seal Stic can be purchased independently.

Question 16 - If the crack line in the pipe is very long, how do I repair it?

Some of the industries using Wrap Seal include Petrochemical, Industrial Processing, Pulp & Paper, Military, Marine, Irrigation, Power Generation, Facilities Maintenance, Water/ Wastewater, Manufacturing, Commercial Fishing, Food Processing, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, etc.

Question 17 - What are the industries are using Wrap Seal?

FAQ - WRAP SEAL

Wrap Seal can be used for routine or emergency leak repair, hazardous material spill control, structural reinforcement, sealing joints, rebuilding thinning pipe walls, corrosion control, abrasion protection, underwater repairs and electrical conduit repairs.

For pipe leak repair, Wrap Seal can be applied to pipes with or without flow (please refer to operating instructions for application conditions). Wrap Seal is applied on corroded pipeline to strengthen the pipe and also prevent future corrosion from occurring. When pipes are thinned (due to corrosion, pigging, etc), Wrap Seal strengthens and bring the pipeline back to its design operating pressure.

Question 1 - What are the applications of Wrap Seal?

Question 2 - For online leak repair (i.e. pipe with flow), what is the maximum flow rate or pressure Wrap Seal can withstand?

Question 3 - For online leak repair, what is the maximum temperature Wrap Seal can hold?

When the flow in the pipeline cannot be stopped, Wrap Seal can be applied to stop the leak while the pipe is “live”. The maximum pressure of the leak should be 15psi or less. As a rule of thumb, if you are able to minimize or control the leak with your thumb, you can use the Wrap Seal to repair the leak. For higher pressure online leak repair, please contact Alstern Technologies for advice.

Wrap Seal can be applied to pipe repair with temperature up to 300°C. Safety measures such as suitable heat protection clothing, safety goggles and protective gloves must be worn and safety procedures strictly adhered to before attempting to repair high temperature leaks. It is not recommended to attempt leak repair on temperature higher than 70°C. For high temperature online leak repair, please contact Alstern Technologies.

Wrap Seal can be applied all types of pipe including metal pipes (e.g. cast iron, galvanized steel, copper, carbon steel, aluminum, lead, stainless steel, etc.), plastic pipes (e.g. PVC, PDVF, polyethylene, polypropylene, etc.), fiberglass or concrete pipes.

Wrap Seal can be applied to fluid including water (e.g. drinking water, waste water, etc.), acids (e.g. hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.), hydrocarbons (e.g. petrochemicals), fuels (e.g. diesel, gasoline, etc.) solvents (e.g. acetone, toluene, MEK, ethyl alcohol, etc.), chemicals (e.g. ethylene glycol, xylenes, ammonia, etc.) gases, bases, slurries, steam, organics and salts.
