SERVICE DESCRIPTION |
Pipe freezing is a cost effective commercial technique for solidifying the liquid in a pipe, with the utilization of cryogen to form a pressure resistant plugs so that maintenance or repair work can be carried out on the pipe without the need to drain down the whole system. This technique has been used for over 30 years in nuclear submarines, on cross-country pipeline, process plant and in many other applications on pipelines containing water, sewage and a wide range of oils and other fluids. |
OUR ADVANTAGES |
In conventional methods, fluid in the pipeline is drained off the level is lowered than required alteration location. However, in certain circumstances, draining off the fluid is not an option. We provide pipe freezing services with the following advantages: · Convenient – No need for massive draining of fluid · Flexible – No need to shut system down · Time Saving – Shorten system downtime · Money Saving – Minimize labour required and loss of fluid / resources · Hassle Free – No need to purge air or refill fluid after work is completed · Reliable – Certainty in project time · Quick – No extra workload · Only Option – For many commercial or industrial applications |
OUR CAPABILITIES |
We are capable of providing pipe freezing service for the following applications: · Freezing of horizontal, vertical and inclined pipes · Freezing of chilled water, condenser water, sea water · Freezing of oil-based, hydrocarbon-based fluid and sludge · Freezing of fluid with glycol (anti-freeze) and most chemicals · Freezing of leaking pipes · Freezing of metal, cement-lining, PVC and other plastic pipes · Freezing of pipe diameters up to 48” |
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS OF PIPE FREEZING |
Pipe freezing is applicable to a variety of situations in which it would be costly or time-consuming to have to drain the contents of the pipe in order to carry out maintenance or repairs. Examples include: · Pipeline maintenance and repair works · Pipeline repairs · Changing of valves, flanges or pumps · Insert new side valves or branches in a pipe · Testing for leakage by isolating different sections of a long pipeline · Isolate one section of fire-protection system without shutting down whole system · Provide secondary protection on water pipes in nuclear reactors during fuel changes |
Objective: Insertion of a 20” Gate Valve into header pipe with 1 chiller in operation.
Pipe Pressure: 10 bar
Duration of works: 8 hours
No. of welding: 4 nos. |
Pipe Freezing of a 4” Chilled Water Pipe |
PROBLEMS FACED IN ALTERATION WORKS |
You are often faced with the following problems during alteration works: 1. Perform maintenance and repair works on pipelines with non-functional valves 2. Maintenance and repair works on 24-hours operating pipeline system 3. Repair works that require to drain off an disproportional large amount of fluid 4. Repair works on leaking pipelines 5. Replacing valves or flanges or insertion of branch in pipelines with no zone valves |
